Sadie enjoyed like many youngsters a steady stream of household pets as a child from a Budgerigar to a Russian Hamster and the all-time family favourite of Goldfish. She embarked on her first weekend job as a dog walker for the local kennels. Before the birth of her daughter Sadie and her husband had their own furry family of two rabbits called Toffee and Tigger.
These were later re-housed at the nursery her daughter attended before their own house move. Sadie continues to encourage an animal environment at home and has since rescued 3 cats from Cats Protection.
Melissa's passion for wildlife stems from her early childhood. She has grown up around animals and knew from an early age that exotic creatures were where her heart lay. This is reflected in her work history which spans over 20 years of working in UK and foreign zoos (including working alongside Steve Irwin back in the 1990's). Much of her work has involved presenting daily public displays and schools educational talks. Melissa has also spent several years in the equine industry, working mainly in riding schools where she taught both children and adults.
A Cute and Cuddly Experience
It was a summer weekend and holiday season, so time for me (Ben) to help out Zoo2U with some outreach work. I met Nathan at the Zoo2U Discovery Centre in Alsager and carefully loaded the selection of 5 animals for the Cute and Cuddly Package into the van and drive the short distance to Weston Hall (Crewe) for a 6th Birthday party.
We left base in plenty of time.. with animals in the van we drive like grannies! When we arrived at our location we were met with 20 very excited children and as usual just as excited parents too. The first task was to make sure the scene was set for the animals to enter by ensuring it wasn’t too noisy. With the animals in and children and adults sat around our mat we were ready.
